Our Mission

Our Mission

Successful music programs and great music travel go hand in hand. Our customized touring packages help define a sense of purpose for ensembles, build ensemble unity and musicianship and strengthen friendships. They help boost the ensemble's reputation in the community and enhance recruitment and fundraising efforts. And, perhaps the most important, they allow diverse cultures to come together and share in the universal language of music.

But, Encore goes beyond travel. We are committed to supporting music education at home. From our director workshops and professional networking events to our scholarship programs for young musicians, we continue to give back to our musical communities year-round. That's why "taking your music program to new places" is our mission. Whether "places" refers to exciting destinations or supporting your music programs at home, Encore is with you every step of the way.

Encore Tours is the performance division of ACIS Educational Tours, the quality leader in educational travel since 1978.

Meet Our Team

James Matthews

"Over the years since Encore's inception I have been lucky enough to attend countless performances by Encore ensembles all across Europe. My favorite moment is always when the audience rises to applaud the performance and you can see the sense of achievement and joy in the faces of the musicians. There are so many opportunities for making lifelong memories while performing abroad and I love being part of making that happen."

"Travel is the most fun and continuous education! Learning in social and cultural capacities in an international environment enables us to better understand ourselves as well as others; it is extremely rewarding to be part of those life-changing experiences for people of all ages and backgrounds. My constant highlight is to see young musicians embark on a first tour with friends and how they develop en route, notably after receiving a standing ovation from a foreign audience with whom they cannot communicate, except through their music."

"After earning my master's degree in French at a school in Paris, I was ready to come back home and encourage others to get a taste for travel. I am lucky enough to do this on a daily basis working at Encore Tours. I know that everyone who will travel with Encore will have an experience of a lifetime."

"As a professional musician, I've had the great opportunity to travel and perform across the United States and Europe. From marching in front of millions at the St. Patrick's Day Parade in New York City to performing at a Mass at St. Peter's Square in Vatican City before Pope John Paul II and 300,000 people, I've experienced first-hand the power of travel and sharing music with others. I look forward every day to helping create powerful experiences and lifelong memories for my clients."

"Make an effort to know the language! When I was traveling with my choir around Austria, I suddenly found myself in the position as translator at a restaurant because I had a small book of phrases with me. The waitress really appreciated me trying to communicate with her (even though I'm sure my pronunciation was terrible at the time) and I very much appreciated her kindness and patience."

"My best travel tip is to just buy the ticket! The rest will work out, but only if you get on that plane!"

"While studying abroad in London, I had planned to see as much of Europe as I could. As someone who is part German-American, I deeply wanted to see Germany, but time only allowed that I could visit Berlin from London for less than half a day. This idea -- which consisted of sleeping in an airport and running to catch a tour straight from my flight -- seemed absurd but turned out to be one of my favorite experiences. Overall, no matter how long your trip is, traveling somewhere can create an irreplaceable memory that will keep you smiling for years."

"Although music is an international language, some knowledge of local languages is vital when you perform abroad! Learn some of the local lingo before you go and you will make long-lasting friends with musicians and music lovers from across the world."

"Being part of a musical ensemble that got to travel abroad and experience different cultures, languages, foods, and performance techniques was one of the most valuable experiences of my life and taught me that making music reflects forming relationships with others in the world."
