Day 2 SALZBURG Your Encore Tour Manager will meet you upon arrival in Munich and transfer you to the hotel in Salzburg, Austria. Located in the Salzach River Valley, Salzburg is one of the most picturesque of all European cities – indeed, it is all of Europe in concentrated form with a castle, cathedral, squares, gardens, spires and rivers. During the Holy Empire, it was called the northern Rome, due to the importance of the Prince Archbishops and the Baroque. The city’s reputation is based on a living musical tradition being the city of Mozart. Its beauty and vibrant musical life have made it one of Europe’s foremost cultural cities. Enjoy dinner in a restaurant this evening before turning in for a good night’s sleep! (D) Day 3 SALZBURG This morning, you’ll enjoy a half day walking tour through the historical town to see the Mozartplatz, Pegasus Fountain, and Mirabell Gardens. Stop for a visit at the historic Salzburg Cathedral, where you will have the opportunity to perform a 20 minute informal concert (pending approval). You also visit Mozart’s Birthplace before taking the funicular up to the fortress that dominates the city. Enjoy an afternoon at leisure before having dinner in a local restaurant this evening. (B,D) Day 4 VIENNA After breakfast, check out of your hotel and depart for Vienna, the historical center of the musical world and a must-visit for any musician. En route, stop in the town of Melk to visit the wonderful Abbey. Continue on through the picturesque Wachau Valley and upon arrival in the Austrian capital, check in to your hotel. Dinner will be in a restaurant this evening. (B,D) Day 5 VIENNA Following breakfast at your hotel, enjoy some free time to explore Vienna on your own this morning. Later this afternoon, you will begin your participation in the Sing Mit Festival. Enjoy an afternoon workshop conducted by Gerald Wirth, the Vienna Boys Choir President and Artistic Director! This evening, get to know some fellow festival attendees during a special Welcome Reception in the rooftop of St. Stephen’s Cathedral! (B,D) Day 6 VIENNA After breakfast, you will be transferred to St. Stephen’s Cathedral where you will participate in a day series of workshops with the President and Artistic Director of the Vienna Boys’ Choir, Gerald Wirth, as part of the Sing Mit Music Festival. Midday, you will have a break to have lunch on your own. This evening, have dinner together in a local restaurant. (B,D) Day 7 VIENNA Today you will return to St. Stephen’s Cathedral for warm up and dress rehearsal. Afterward, you will have time for an independent lunch and some last minute shopping for souvenirs. Enjoy an early farewell dinner, then return to St. Stephen’s Cathedral. Tonight, perform Mendelssohn’s Elijah as part of the Sing Mit Festival! (B,D) Day 8 DEPARTURE Transfer to the airport for return flight to the United States. (B) Sample Customizations* About Gerald Wirth Gerald Wirth received his first musical training as a member of the Vienna Boys Choir and at the Anton Bruckner University in Austria, where he studied voice, oboe and piano. In 2001, he became artistic director of the Vienna Boys’ Choir and, in 2013, its president. From 1986 to 1989, Wirth was a choirmaster of the Vienna Boys Choir, in charge of one of the four touring choirs. Between 1989 and 1991, he was chorus master of the Salzburg opera house. In Canada, he held the posts of artistic director of the Calgary Boys’ Choir and musical director of the Calgary Civic Symphony. In addition to conducting choirs and orchestras, Wirth also holds workshops all over the world, often working with music teachers. He has written three children’s operas, several large oratorios, masses, motets, and songs. Wirth believes that music has a positive influence on every aspect of a person’s being.
